I'm getting no picture when trying to record DVD'S

Is there anyone out there that has had the same problem and can possibly Help? i get real good quality sound, and a perfectly clear all black picture. I cannot see the DVD that i recorded only a black picture .

I,m going Crazy here, now I have a good clear picture and sound , but when i push record button it says cannot record protected video . Help

How things are connected ?
Where are you located (I need to to check if you may have PAL-NTSC issue) ?
